The Nature

 
 

The Corinthia determined physiognomy of the mountain range of Zireia dominating, the highest peak at 2374m. Reference point of the landscape is the valley Flabouritsa that separates the massif in Small and Large Ziria, as they are called. The name comes from Kyllene the character of the soil with many cavities (kyllous). The second and probably most known name of the mountain Ziria, probably derived from the word "Ziria", which means acorn. It is a landscape of exceptional beauty, where the dense and trackless forests interrupted only by streams, rivers and verdant plateaus. The Stymfalia lake and pond Glory milestones landscape, and living resources and water supply for the local community, while the rich aquifer region is giving the Zireia the unique quality of bottled natural mineral water.

Firs, pines and oaks dominate the forests and rare flowers such as agriomenexedes, anemones and mountain yellow and purple crocuses dress color the landscape. Notable are the rare varieties of mushrooms. The fauna besides foxes, badgers and hares, golden eagles, the largest and most rare eagle that lives in Greece, and the tree frog, a rare frog species that loves water and prefers living in trees, are the two rarest species in the area.

 
     
 

The History

 
 

The area has been inhabited since ancient times and is closely intertwined with Hellenism and the mythological tradition. In cave Kyllene wants legend being born Hermes and nurtured by the Nymphs. Helydorea called a mountain top, reminding that Hermes created the lyre donated to the god Apollo, using the shell of a turtle.
